Nokas launches pilot in Denmark with ShopBox

Stop Spending Time Counting the Cash Register

Nokas launches pilot in Denmark with ShopBox

It should be easy for businesses to handle multiple payment types. That’s why Nokas, in collaboration with Shopbox, is testing a new service that provides one integrated solution for card, digital payments, and cash. The new service also automates the counting of the day’s cash turnover, which is reported directly to the company’s accounting system. The pilot project runs until early January.

Lynæs Surfcenter in Hundested is one of the business customers testing the new service. They are looking forward to trying a unified system where they no longer need to spend time balancing the cash register, and where the day’s turnover is automatically reported directly to their own accounting system and to Nokas.

Currently, businesses spend time closing the register, counting the day’s cash in notes and coins, registering the amount with Nokas, and entering it into the accounts. But that should end, according to cash-handling company Nokas and Danish firm Shopbox, which provides digital POS and payment solutions. Together, they have developed a new service that includes automation of some manual cash-handling processes. The goal is to make life easier for businesses and future-proof payment infrastructure so it works both in everyday operations and during crises.

Customers are demanding simpler solutions. Recent contingency reports from authorities and the National Bank have increased focus on cash, which may lead to higher cash usage. Furthermore, a new report from the European Central Bank shows that demand for cash rises significantly when stability is challenged.

“We want to help solve some of the challenges our business customers face, and we continuously explore different options. We have established a strong partnership with Shopbox, which has a solid market position and shares our vision. We aim to remove hassle, optimize processes, and reduce time consumption, which is why we launched this pilot project offering one unified solution for all payments – including cash” says CEO Morten Kierkegaard.

The collaboration with Shopbox is the first step in Nokas’ strategic initiative to bridge cash and digital payment solutions through more integrated services.
“We are very pleased with the collaboration with Nokas, a professional and responsible player. We have worked hard to make the new service clear and intuitive in the POS system so businesses can operate more efficiently and free up time for what creates value. We look forward to the results of the test period” says CEO Karsten Henriksen from Shopbox.

The new service The pilot project, aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, can accept payments digitally, by card, and in cash. The solution can integrate with other systems such as inventory management, webshops, and accounting programs, and all data can be monitored in real time. Time-consuming processes like daily cash counting and register balancing are automated, as the system calculates cash turnover from all transactions and can report directly to the company’s accounting system – and to Nokas. The business only needs to note the amount kept as change. The rest is collected by Nokas or deposited in a night safe. Nokas then counts and reconciles the reported amount with the actual amount.

Lynæs Surfcenter in Hundested is one of the first test customers. “We are thrilled to be part of the pilot project. We look forward to trying a unified system that also automatically calculates how much cash should be in the register. We imagine it will be less cumbersome and save us time in daily operations, which we can instead use to run our business” says Jeppe Ingversen from Lynæs Surfcenter.

All parties look forward to gaining insights from the pilot project, which runs until the beginning of the new year, and are eager to see if customers find the solution appealing.
